I am thinking about getting a digital camcorder which will no doubt connect to my PC via Fire-Wire, so I will need to install a Fire-Wire port on my PC.
I have heard of some cards which have both Fire-Wire and USB2 ports on them, so it seems sensible to get one of these as it will be cheaper than me adding USB2 at some point in the future, and will take up one less slot on my PC.
My query is this: I have currently have a couple USB ports which I can't get to work as I get the error "NTKERN.VXD could not load the device driver(s) for this device", which I have been unable to fix despite some advice from this site. I know USB2 is backwards compatible, but will I be able to get the USB2 ports to work if my USB ports wont work??? If so, it would be excellent as I can forget about trying to fix the USB problem, but if not it would be a waste of money installing them.
FYI I am using Win 98SE, and I think the NTKERN.VXD error is quite common with SE. The fix on microsoft's site is to delete 2 lines of code from the autoexec.bat fil, but that file is empty on my PC.
Any advice on whether USB2 will work on my PC would be very gratefully received.
