I am building a high end PC with the new MSI KT4 Ultra SR moby, it has USB2 headers for the case's front panel USB ports.
My question is I have rang Suntek (the case manufacturer) to ask if there is any differance in the wiring to their front panel USB ports between USB1 or 2.
The Lady seemed to think that there was a differance but couldn't say for sure, she thought they were USB1 ONLY! (very good I know) but where does that leave me? I have bought a decent Aluminium case with front panel USB but dare not connect them up in case I burn out the board.
I always thought that because USB1 perriferals were backward compatible (work in USB2 ports) that the wiring to the ports was the same?? but has anyone an answer.
Please no guessing! I cannot afford a replacement.

The only difference between USB 1.0(1.5 mbps) and USB 1.1(12 mbps)/2.0(480 mbps) cables is that it's only recommended that USB 1.0 cable have twisted data wires and that the outer jacket have an additional shielding layer, whereas these features are mandatory for USB 1.1/2.0.

If your system has USB 1.0 cables, then you can connect USB 2.0 hardware to them. However, the data transfer rate will be slower than USB 1.1/2.0 capabilities.
