I have installed a new Adaptec USB 2.0/Firewire duo PCI card but it is not being recognized. i have a Dell 8200 ~ 3 yrs old but am running XP. Any help

Did you have USB installed before? Look in BIOS setup and see if USB is turned on. Look in Device Manager (scroll down to bottom) and see if USB is installed.
 
Have you installed the software that came with the card? Is the card supposed to be compatable with your OS?
 
Service pack 1 or newer and or (not sure) additional software drivers that came with the card.
It may be that this card is just not compatible with your motherboard.

I believe this adaptec card is not compatible with my motherboard. I have been using the Standard USB1.1 since its inception. Today i changed to a Dynex USB 2.0 and all is well
The adaptec PCI USB 2.0 did not come with any drivers on the CD, only PDF files on installation which are pretty useless. Adaptec website has some drivers from 2002 which did not work corroborating the incompatibility
