Have a Compaq Presario 700 aka 711au, which is a little over a year old, running XP home and has 2 USB ports. I'd like to purchase an external USB CD-RW burner but dont know if I have USB 1 or 2, the burning speed will differ greatly, how do I find out what type of USB ports (1 or 2) I have?

help on this much appreciated

:)

The device drivers in the device manager typically has the word "2.0" in the driver names for usb2.0 ports. Other than that, check compaq's site for system information?

mazzie,
Try the following link, it has a very good explanation with regard to USB data transfer rates.

Chances are you have USB 1.1 (but look in device manager to be sure). But even if you do have 1.1, you can purchase a PCI card that will give you USB 2.0 ports for your PC.
