Sometime ago I upgraded my motherboard and all was working fine. I connected my digital camera to the PC and the OP first recognised a new USB device and within seconds rebooted itself, then on re-start it freezes just before the blue progress bar appears on the start-up flash screen. I could go into Safe mode and I used this to remove and re-install all USB devices and to also reload standard drivers, this fixed the problem... until I plugged the Fuji camera in again when the same would happen, so eventually I gave up and use the camera on another PC (which works fine).

I recently purchased a new Sony DV camcorder which has Fire wire & USB connections. This worked fine with no errors, so I stupidly I thought I would try the still camera again - wrong decision...

The computer once again freezes before the blue start-up progress bar, I have tried the above to restore to a functional state but no luck. I have used system restore and last known good but again no luck. I have tried boot logging but the system freezes before the file can be initiated (must be created after blue progress bar). I have remove ALL USB drivers from the system and re-installed USB2 drivers from the Sony camcorder disk but no go..

Where should I go from here? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try this patch:
Look thoroghly through this site for possible chipset specific and BIOS issues with your USB devices:
There is a lot of information on the site, but it takes some looking on your part.

Disconnect all USB devices. In Device Manager, Safe Mode, View all Hidden Devices, then remove all USB related devices include the root hubs.

Reboot in normal fashion and let XP re-dedect all the root hubs.

The one-by-one reintroduce your USB devices and reload the device drivers for them, with the exception of the Fuji.

You really need to ask Fuji about that issue, and/or search in Google Groups for the specific camera model.
