What's your OS? What's the make and model of the Stick? (e.g. Kingston USB 2.0 256MB Memory Stick).
With 2000 and XP, they don't normally require drivers. With 98/ME, You normally need Drivers (the Memory Stick should've come with a CD with appropriate Drivers, but if not, check the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers).
Did you solve your problem? If you have network drives mapped, it may be trying to use a drive letter that is already used by the network mapping. If on Win2k/XP, go into Disk Manager (inside Computer Management under Administrative Tools) and reassign the drive letter for the USB drive.
