Hi,
I recently installed a usb external hard drive and now when my system restarts i have to remove the usb cable in order for it to boot.
Is there something in the bios that needs changed?
thanks in advance!

Wrong forum really mate.

What actually happens? Is there an error?
First stop would be to check the BIOS to see if it is trying to boot from external USB devices before the HD.

Hope this helps,

Steve.

i guess i should mention its a windows 2003 server, but i assumed you'd know since i posted in this forum.

what happens is it says disk order has changed non system disk error and yes its trying to boot from the usb hard drive. My question is how to bypass the usb hard drive?

The point is it's not a Windows issue! ;-)

I would change the boot order in the BIOS. If the BIOS is set to:

1. USB
2. HD
3. Optical

Then re-arrange them to have the HD at the top.

If on the other hand it's already in the correct order, I would take a look at your HD's. Maybe they are damaged? (Are you using RAID?)

See if the HD's are being recongised in the BIOS during the POST Checks.

Good Luck,

Steve.

Steve,
yes i am using raid, sorry i forgot to through that in there as well! Does this compicate things?
its a hardware raid 1

Thanks!

Just changing and saving the boot order in the Bios should fix this issue for you. Just choose to boot from raid as the first choice.

Hi Sean,
this resolved the problem, thanks! it just took me a while to find it in the bios.
