Hi,

I'm on an old laptop with no software, a narrowband modem, and no Ethernet support!

If I download essential software at the office, can I transfer it to my laptop over a USB cable?

Years ago, I tried using direct-cables (Parallal & Serial) with no luck: Windows just said "Waiting for connection..." and nothing happened :(

Any advice would be appreciated. I don't think the office has a CDR :(

Thanks! :)

To transfer any files to the laptop using USB, you will first need to have Window 98SE or newer running on it. Once you get that far, you can copy files to a USB memory stick, and then from the memory stick to the laptop. A USB hard drive would be another option. You cannot direct connect two computers using a USB cable.

Ah, memory stick... good thinking! :)

Bcastner is right. I have such a cable. You can get them pretty cheap at bestbuy and such places. They come with software as well and work pretty good.

Also, the device you show would be fine. However, with prices for these items falling rapidly, you might check around online for a better price. Maybe, maybe not, since these are not US dollars that i am used to,lol.
cheers

Do you have a digital camera or MP3 player?
I only ask because these devices can be used in just the same way as a flash pen and will obviously save you the need to buy the afore mentioned pen.
