While attempting to install drivers for a USB camera, my USB controller was wipe out. I can't seem to get the Hardware wizzard to install the correct drivers, even when using the proper .inf file(for the chipset of my laptop). W2k always wants to install the generic driver, which then causes the wizzard to report and error telling me the drivers weren't installed.

Is there any way to fix this problem. Currently all USB ports on my laptop are down, including the USB Mouse.

thanks in advance,

Rusty

Thanks but that didn't help. That KB article assumes you know the name of the driver, the location and it seems only if they belong to microsoft.

by the way, this is what I have done so far:

Me, too.

My USB scanner went on the fritz, so I:
1. Reinstalled the driver. No good.
2. Uninstalled the driver completely, rebooted, reinstalled. No good.
3. Uninstalled all USB drivers, rebooted to BIOS & disabled USB, booted W2K,
rebooted to BIOS, re-enabled USB, installed USB drivers. No good.
4. Uninstalled all USB drivers, deleted all apparently USB-related Registry
entries, rebooted to BIOS, disabled USB, booted W2K, rebooted to BIOS,
re-enabled USB, installed USB drivers. No good.

My next step is a repair installation, but I can't afford
the time to reinstall all my apps (in case it doesn't work & fubars
my system), so it'll have to wait until I have more free time.

If you find a way that works, please share.

Thanks,

.

I have done exactly that.
