Theory and Formal Methods is as far as I understand a bunch of theorems, concepts and some formal procedures developed in academic circles with no specific product in mind. They may or they may not be incorporated into some useable products in the future.

Many of these projects were sponsored (in Europe) by the ESPRIT programme of the EU (European Community)

Imperial College (UK) took a definite interest in it. Its results can be glanced at :

Full disclosure of the reports require membership, the details of which I do not posess. Neither do I know if the grants (and the associated projects) are still running.
