Urgent: How to protect port 135, etc from inbound traffic in XP

Hi All,

I have a Window XP workstation at home using a dial-up
connection to Earthlink. I did not catch up with recent M/Soft pathches and... no wander my PC contracted the virus/worm: W32.Welchia.Worm. After a dozen reboots I
managed to download the tool from Symantec and to delete
the virus. Now I'd like to prevent my PC from being
infected again. Unfortunately I cannot install SP1 or SP1A
on XP, which (according to M/Soft) is a prerequisit for
their patch - for whatever reason the installation of SP1/1A from Windows Update fails.

I decided to implement as per Microsoft's advice sort of a
workaround, i.e. to protect ports 135, 139, etc. from the
inbound internet traffic. M/Soft says I can use the ICF
(Intenet Connection Firewall), however I failed to figure out how to enable this firewall and to protect these ports
using it.

Again let me underscore: this machine is not a part of
the Internet Connection Sharing - it directly dials up to my Earthlink provider and does not share this connection with any other machine.

Q1:
I would very much appreciate if somebody could provide me with very detailed instructions as to how to manipulate with this ICF tool.


Q2:
Is there any way to get a CD with SP1A for Windows XP ?

To enable the firewall, right click on your dial-up connection, select Properties, Advanced tab, check 'Protect my computer....'

What is the error you get when trying to install SP1? Is this a legal version of XP?
