hya,

i have a large database approx 50 mega bytes in size, last night i tryed to open database and only only access loaded up, there was no sign of the database or any information.
The database is still 50 mega bytes in size, i dont understand what has happened.

I really need to resolve this problem fast as there are approx 200 user's needing to use it this afternoon if anyone has any idea's at all it would be a great help

Hi AccessDevJunior

few questions

Is the database set in startup to hide the database window (Go in with the shift key down)

What happens if you load access and then open database?

Can you make another database and use the import option from it to import all the tables, forms etc?

My first bit of advice would be don't compact & repair it. That'll almost certainly make any damage permanent.

Before you do anything take a copy of the database in its current state.

1. If you try and import all your objects into a new MDB file does that work?

2. If you loop through each collection in code can you see the objects there? If so you may be able to write some code to export all the objects somewhere else.

3. Do you have a backup copy you can restore from? If not, why not?! :)

4. I can have a look for you if you want. Upload it to (my email is a Hotmail address - I can't post it, but it doesn't take much working out from my name). It won't be until tonight though.

hya, thanks for the help,

ive tryed copying the file and that didnt work.

ive tryed importing from a blank database and nothing happened.

ive tryed holding the shift key down and still nothing happens.

ive tryed getting to the code at nbthing happened.

after just reading your post, i think the problem may have occured after compacting and repairing the database, is there no way to resolve this?

i have a backup but it is about a week old

There are some commercial vendors specializing in such. Some of them are lnked from this page Corrupt Microsoft Access MDBs FAQ.

There are also links to some free utilities that can be tried first - just be sure you work on an copy and leave the "original" defected db as intact as possible (as Ed2020 has alredy mentioned). There's also a Microsoft tool, that I can't quite remember the name of, JetComp...?

Roy - yep, JetComp is the tool you're thinking of.

AccessDevJunior - Any database with that number of users should be backed up on a daily basis. I suspect you may be about to learn a valuable lesson!

Good luck with it anyway!

thanks i will look for a utility to do that, unfortunately i do not have the permissions to run such utilities from my computer at work so ill have to wait while i get home to download it

I have learnt a valuable lesson to back the database up everyday just seem to have forgotten all about it now i have moved onto a new project.

thanks for the help, at least now i can tell my boss something can be done about it
