Hi all,
Help!
My wife dropped a book on her keyboard ( XP home) and suddenly the display is upside down and backwards..the mouse is also working in reverse(it tracks backwards as well, so it look like the monitor got turned upside down!)

Rebooting did not help

Hi,
SOLVED!

Somehow the dropping object managed to cause the Desktop..Graphic Options..Rotate option to set the rotation to 180 degrees - A google search led me to the steps needed to put it back ( manuvering in that rotated state was fun !)

Hi,
Learned that there are keyboard shortcuts to change the orientation of the display: Cntl-Alt-(arrow key for direction/degree of rotation, up arrow to return to normal)

The falling book must have hit those - go figure!

That must have been one big book? [surprise]... or a very small keyboard?

I used to have a handle on life... but it broke. Cpt. Red Bull

The Alt, Ctrl, and ? keys are all within 4½" on my keyboard, which is the largest keyboard I've ever had, 19" wide.

Hi,
Same on the one in question - less than 5 inches.

( Book was actually a loose-leaf binder, so plenty big enough [smile])

Not such an odd reply from aich69, if using a British keyboard.

The British keyboard has ALT Gr to the left of the space, not a ALT key (although they are often mapped the same). Hence the 150mm ish diffence (c'mon guys get with the 20th century ;-) )

Robert Wilensky:
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.

Strange Wiki says this:
The UK variant of the IBM Enhanced keyboard commonly used with personal computers designed for Microsoft Windows differs from the US layout as follows:

* an AltGr key is added to the right of the space bar
* the # symbol is replaced by the £ symbol and a 102nd key is added next to the Enter key to accommodate the displaced #
* @ and " are swapped
* the ~ is moved to the # key, and is replaced by a ¬ symbol on the backquote (`) key
* the \ key is moved to the left of the Z key
* the Enter key spans two rows, and is narrower to accommodate the # key

which I can confirm, as I have three different layouts, German, English (UK) (which I find best for programming jobs) and the English (US) Layouts...

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

What is an AltGr key, and what does it do?

I thought this was the 21st century.
