I have a sparc 10 station that was given to me. It only has a 3.5 floppy drive in it. I purchased an external cdrom for it. It has a full installed OS currently which I want to completely wipe away. How can I mount the CDROM and start the install of 2.6 if I don't know the root password ( or any password for that matter ) on the system currently? I wish to completely wipe the current F/S and start from scratch. Any help will be appreciated.
Mark Sargent
sargent@getadvanced.net
<a href=
If your going to blow-away your existing version of the OS you dont need to know the root password. Bring the system up to the OK prompt (init 0) or if auto-boot is true then STOP-A to crash into the OK prompt and then stick in your CD and issue "boot cdrom" (without quotes) to boot directly from the CDRom drive and start a new install, right over the old one. when prompted enter your own, new root password and your cooking with gas..
