Upgrading Terminal aloha 5.3 to 6.4

I currently have a 3 terminal system runing 6.4, but one of my terminals is acting up on me, luckily i have an extra terminal that i dont use but it has aloha 5.3 how can i upgrade this terminal to 6.4 so i can put in in the place of the terminal that is acting up. Can i copy the aloha folder and just replace it?

In theory, yes.

There's really nothing to "upgrade" since all of Aloha's key executables and dlls are in (and in only a few cases, registered from) the BIN directory.

If what you're saying is you had a terminal that was already configured/running on that system (and was just unused), copying the Aloha folder is about all you have to do (and if you want to get technical, you'd really only need the BIN folder).

You may have to do some additional configuration, however, if this terminal is from a different system or matches the settings of a terminal that is currently running on the network.

thank you for your quick response. I already configured the terminal through aloha.ini and and edited cfg.bat i just might not be sure what the network username and password is. is there a default? So to copy the aloha folder or the bin folder i will copy the file to a flash drive from one terminal and paste it to to the other would that work?

Yes, you can take a flash drive and copy the entire Aloha folder from one terminal and put it on the terminal with the older version of Aloha. The only thing you'll really want to watch out for is that some dealers used to like to but the cfg file for Aloha in the Aloha folder as well, in which case there is a chance you might over write it.

I like to grab the whole when possible because reduce likelihood of anything weird happening if that new terminal somehow tried to make it self master when it when it came up, etc... that's rare, but if you get the whole folder, it's going to use all current info from the system it's going to be running on.

I've run across a lot of different user names passwords used by dealers, I can't say there is a default, but you can check to see what the other terminals are using to log on with by clicking on START, then log off/shut down. However, if these terminals were setup on the same system/by the same dealer, it would probably be the same logon and password.
