DTA 002 and Noise on Cabinets when using MGC and PRIs on 5.0W
Background:
We are currently observing an issue in the field with some upgrades from Option 11C or CS1000M cabinet systems to
CS1000E Rls 5.0. i.e. when using an NTAK11 (Opt11C) cabinet. The issue observed with some NTAK11 cabinet
upgrades is noise, clicking, popping and a DTA 002 message from the PRI digital trunks, where there is an NTDW60
Media Gateway Controller in slot 0.
This bulletin is being issued for additional details on technical bulletin 2007-008424
This issue does NOT occur on CS1000E systems using NTDU14 or 15 media gateways, CS1000M SG, MG or chassis
systems or Option 11C systems still using SSC cards.
Analysis:
This issue has only been observed when all 3 elements (NTDW60 media gateway controller, NTAK11 cabinet and PRI
cards) are used. Only a limited number of customers with all 3 of these elements are seeing the problem. Customers with only 2 or less of the 3 items will not see the issue.
Customers with chassis type gateways, cabinets without PRI cards or cabinets with SSC rather than MGC controllers will
not see the issue.
Nortel is pursuing a solution to this issue as quickly as possible. Once the solution has been determined and trialed, it will
be communicated via this bulletin.
Recommendations:
Until a solution to the issue is made available, Nortel recommends that system upgrades to CS1000E Rls 5.0 which
include the NTDW60 MGC card, an NTAK11 cabinet which houses PRI cards should not be used until further notice.
Only a limited number of customers with all 3 of these elements are seeing the problem. Customers with only 2 or less of the 3 items will not see the issue.
A workaround at this time is to move all PRI cards to available slots in a chassis style gateways.
Good luck.
