We have 6 domains with trusts in place. Each domain has its own PDC and several BDC's and would like to know if it is possible for the time being to upgrade 1 domain only to W2K domain controller (by way of upgrading the PDC of one the domains).

Could this be workable and would there be any implications?

Appreciate responses!

Yes, you can upgrade one domain for the time being, but a lot of planning would be involved.

Are you planning to have all domains completely seperate in the new W2K domain model? Or are you planning to have lots of "child domains" under the forest root (MS recommended approach)?

If the latter, you'll need to make sure that the first domain you upgrade to W2K, is the domain you want to be the forest root. You'll also need to make sure that the NT4 PDC you upgrade is the box you want to be the schema master, and basically hold a lot of key functions in the entire W2K AD domain model.

Remember, planning is the key to a W2K upgrade, as "changing" the structure of a W2K domain model usually means completely scrapping and redoing the domain. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K
