I am about to upgrade my system. I was expecting to use a legacy card carrier to use the PRI card from my IP412. However, my reseller is suggesting I buy a new PRI card and gave me the following reason;

"The Legacy Card Carrier was a stop-gap from Avaya until they launched the new PRI card. The quality wasn't brilliant and they did tend to drop calls.

When I quoted the figures, there was no other option that the LCC. You can still get them, but they can be a little flaky in quality terms."

Has anyone else had any experience of this?

not really, but i know there are some features with 4.1/4.2 that were limited if you didnt use the new style card.

but we use one in our office, since ip 500 came out, no problems as yet

the new pri is only available for the last few months. previous to that we all have been using legacy cards without problems. The only reason you wouldn't is because you can gain an extra slot in the system which can be used for extension cards, etc.

No problems at all
But like said, new features loke one-x are only working with The new pri and bri cards

Ditto above.

Sounds like somebody want you to spend more money on h/w and licenses!!!!

in the UK: Legacy Card Carrier: about £85. Neww Pri and extra 22ch RFA: about £865.

If you don't need the extra mobility features then there is no reason at all for not using the legacy card with a IP 400 PRI card.
There are no issues at all regarding the IP 400 PRI card in a IP 500.

the new PRI card needs to be licensed as there are only 4 channels working without additional licensing, the old one works with all channels

Just my 2c
There are significant DSP changes on the new IP500 UNI PRI cards to help deal with echo related issues found with the older style cards, in a pure VoIP handset enviroment.
Wack a new UNI card in guess what echo goes !!
