Do you guys normally upgrade or at least recommend upgrading customers to newer releases (i.e. 9.0 to 10.0) if they have support contracts that will cover the cost?

This is assuming your clients are having 0 issues. Does the "don't fix it if it's not broken" rule apply here?

FYI these would mostly be very small embedded voicemail clients of 30 or less users.

Definitely "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

Maintenance contracts don't cover this sort of change, the cover fixing things that don't work.

if cust is experiencing a bug that is fixed by an upgrade we upgrade otherwise if the cust is asking for an upgrade that is chargeable.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

only if there is a feature that they need / require on the new release. TLS for voicemail to e-mail is a good one with embedded vm. Upgrade a lot of systems for that feature.

At least request the license. That way the customer has it if they ever need to use it. Doesn't mean you have to upgrade the system. (Unless you're going to R10)

I agree, don't fix something that works.
A friend of mine a a good philosophy about this.

So even if they have an IPOSS contract, an upgrade from 9 to 10 is not covered correct?

I once heard someone say the biggest enemy of Perfect is Good Enough

I remember many times when I thought that I just change a tiny setting to make it perfect and broke it costing me a lot of time in the end.

Iposs will provide 9 - 10 upgrade

Do YOUR contract with the customer cover it?
if not would you be charging the cust to perform the upgrade or doing it FOC?

Don't tell that they have it in IPOSS except if they have issues or really want new features that are not really there in R10
I am wondering if they just could not think of anything else to put in there.
We should maybe collect ideas for Avaya what to put into the new releases.
