upgrading ad-40 to ad-64

Help please! I've got an upgrade soon.
exisitng: OS2 with ad-40
upgrade: to windows 2000 and ad-64.
same PC's Dell poweredge2500
Question: we currently do backups to DAT tapes....in the upgrade manuals they recommend migrating the database to disks or Network.....

can I perform a full back up to DAT, upgrade the PC to windows 2000, load ad-64, and then restore from the DAT???
