Upgrading a MIllennium PC to Win 2000 Pro

I am considering doing this -- as opposed to a clean install of win 2000 Pro after fdisk and formatting -- does anyone have any experience (or "horror stories") of how the

"install win 2000 on top of MIllennium" has in fact worked?

I've upgraded a few systems sucessfully, but if at all possible, I'd suggest starting from scratch.I've found that updates often leave a lot of junk lying around, but have never really tested to see. If I find my winME CD, I might run a couple tests in the near future and see what's left behind...
