I just purchased the latest upgrade tools and I'm upgrading from a XC1.1 to XC7.1. Do I need the actual 4.1xc & 6.1xc software? I have been told to stop at 4.1 & 6.1 but I don't know if I need the actual software or not. Plz help.

1.1 to 4.1 to 6.1 to 7.0
but if its a smaller system i would skip it and reformatt and rekey from scratch

i ski there for i am

Do I need the actual 4.1xc & 6.1xc software while I am upgrading?

make sure you have the same vintage XC such as CDA to CDA and USA to USA XC... any mixes and matches will definitely default your system.

So I will need the software along with the upgrade tools?

yes you will need an upgrade tool from 1.1xc to 4.1xc.. there is no upgrade tool needed from 4.1xc to 6.1xc and then 6.1xc to 7.0xc.

Also, PLEASE check to see if everything else is compatible such as voicemails, ACD systems, SMDR equipment, CTA equipment, and Phones.... all these items will need to be upgraded prior to your system being upgraded.

There are 3 different upgrade tools FYI. But I will agree with serviceboy... redo it...

I purchased the NT7B80AN CDA-MICS-XC S/W Upgrade Tool (which includes NT7B64CK 4.1 Upgrade SW Cartridge & NT7B64ZB 7.0 Upgrade SW Cartridge). I was wondering if you have read the "Norstar ICS 7.0 Using the upgrade took kit"? It doesn't say to insert the 4.1 software cart or the 6.1 software. I would love to reinstall the programming, but this system is too big. Tks.

do you have CDA XC software?? Just making sure... The book does say to go from 4.1 to 6.1 first, then to 7.0. If you do not, the system will never come up.

If you don't need to save programming just do a Feature **STARTUP with the 1.1-XC. Then when you get to the point where the display says "Applying template" pull the power cord, swap the software, then reapply power.

This system is too big to re-program, so I am going to need to upgrade. I am really confused on the whole upgrade thing. The paperwork that came with my upgrade tool says to take it up to 4.1 first then to 7.0. NTL555 says a book says to stop at 6.1. Can someone tell me what the actual upgrade procedures are. Thanks.

Do you have the MICS 7.0 documentation disc? If so look in the Modular ICS installer guide page 207.

If you do not I will quote from the book
"Upgrades to MICS 7.0 are only supported from systems running 6.0 or 6.1 software. If you are running software prior to MICS 6.0, obtain a MICS 6.1 upgrade and perform an upgrade to that software first." (Nortel MICS 7.0 pg 207)

Perfect. I will upgrade to 4.1 using the upgrade tool, then take it to 6.1 using the 7.0 upgrade tool and 6.1 software then to 7.0. Thanks for all your help NTL555.

Just to add starting on page 211 of the 7.0 Installer guide tells you the steps to upgrading prior to RLS 4.1.

Using the upgrade tool from 4.1 to 7.0 is a 2-step process. Insert the MICS 7.0 upgrade cartridge and power up. The system returns to date & time. Check all your settings then power off and install the MICS 7.0 s/w cartridge.Power up and you're done. I did a 5.0 to 7.0 upgrade on Monday and it took about 15 minutes.Same kit. Same process.
No need to go to 6.1
