The old Pentium 200 is about to calve so we want to replace the hardware but not the 4.11 running on it. We use it for file and print only.

Are there any gotchas with too fast a processor (2.4 Ghz planned), too much RAM (1 Gb planned) or mirrored SCSI drives?

Thanks for your help.

The problem you are likely to run into will be finding compatible NetWare 4.11 drivers (LAN, scsi) for the new box. Unfortunately, you will not know that until you go to install. Find out the exact LAN card and SCSI card(make, model and bios versions) of the new box, then see if there are NetWare 4.11 drivers for those.

rjs is exactly right. Although there are some ways around this make sure you have a copy of SP9 avaliable and on a CD for you to use. The last system I configured was a Dell 2.1 gig with a Perc4 RAID card. Dell told me specifically "we don't support 4.11 on this server BUT there are ways to get it to work" What I had to do was take the update drivers off the SP9 CD and load them using those drivers. After that you have to do a manual installation of the OS. Manual install = Creating the Netware partition, creating the volumes then copy the System and public files over. This is all done through the Install NLM. Its not very easy or pretty but the server has been running for about 6 months straight now with no problems.

*end users are just like computers, some you can work with...others just need a simple reBOOTing to fix their problems.*

Just last week I made a DELL RAID PERC3 HAM driver work on a NetWare 3.12 server.

So no matter what the vendors say, if you can find a HAM driver for the device, you should be able to make it work .. Maybe a little bit of manual labor will be involved, but it's not that big of a deal, really.
