I've got a legacy application running on an 2000 pro box, 10 users are accessing the app on a regular basis.

A new project has come along and I need to get another 10 users to access the app on the same box.

I would rebuild it as 2000 server, but the application has been through a few upgrades an I no longer have the original disks.

I tried a straight upgrade but it doesn't work.

Any other ideas to make this work, or am I out of luck.

unfortunately your SOL.

You cannot upgrade windows 2000 pro to windows 2000. It seems like it would be possible, and its very dissapointing to find you cannot :(

wanted to do this myself when a legacy server had pro installed and we wanted term services installed...

I had the same problem with our legacy app. I don't know if this will work for you, but its worth a shot. The legacy app that I had to move resided in one directory (about 3gigs) on the root drive (C:). I installed Windows 2000 server on a seperate hard drive, then mounted the Windows 2000 pro as a slave. I copied this one folder from the Windows 2000 pro drive to the same location on the Windows 2000 server drive.
This is a tough one, and I hope this works for you! Does the company that made this legacy app still exist?

If this is a "flat-file" application (ie. It only needs a file share on the server) and does not rely on a back end service, like SQL, just copy the file to another system with a share of the same name. Shut down the old box and rename the new box to the name of the old box.

If the application does rely on services on the server, you will probably need to get your hands on the original media. Don't be afraid to contact the vendor (if they still exist).
