I recently upgraded my Son's Windows XP Acer laptop to Vista OS and now he cannot get MSN Messenger to work. "Windows" Messenger is fine !!

He has looked around and been told that Vista won't work with MSN Messenger unless he has Microsoft OFFICE 2007 installed. Is that right?

He has never had a version of Microsoft OFFICE installed previously and MSN Messenger worked ok when Windows XP was the OS.

It does seem a bit drastic for him to pay out £100 just to get something that was working before the upgrade. Can anyone confirm this or give me a fix please?

I can't say that I have ever heard anything that suggests you need Microsoft Office to run MSN Messenger.

Are you using the latest version of "Windows Live Messenger"

"Windows Messenger" is the XP version. What do you mean by MSN Messenger? For Vista you want "Windows Live Messenger".

I don't use it my Son does but it is so he can have a Hotmail account and messenger. His friends are all on it.

I will tell him to try your suggestion. Thanks for the reply

All (Microsoft) versions of Messenger allow you to sign in with your Hotmail account details.
