I want to upgrade our main file & print server which is running Win 200o using new hadrware to Win 2k3 using the same name. Any body done this? The win2k server is also the first servber in the domain & is a GC server. It used to run exchange 5.5 but we have upgraded to exch2003 on another server. Exchange 5.5 is still on the box but services are stopped. Any help & advice would be appreciated.

Hi!
I’ve done this before – moving the GC and main file and print W2k server to new hardware by imaging the old server and putting the image on the new one but this is a dirty way to solve the problem.
Though it worked I would seriously recommend you to have a clean install of a W2k3 DC. Moving the files and home folders as well as configuring the new server as a print server can be scripted and is not such a horrible task to run away from. Besides if it is going to be your main machine you’d better have a clean installed and a dependable machine.
Anyway if you want to try the imaging scenario you have to uninstall first Exchange 5.5.
