We are in the process of going from Rlse 5.5 to 7.5 on a Succesion 1000M (multi-group). My concern is our PRI's. Presently using QPC720 cards with no issues. Avaya says they won't work and should not have worked at 5.5. Reviewing thread 798-1550366 and thread 798-1508402. Will change the T1's to the NT5D12 Dual PRI cards before the actual Release 7.5 upgrade occurs.

Present configuration is;
(qty 2) MSDL cards for T1's -provides DCH's-spare ports available both cards.
(qty 2) QPC414 cards for T1's - Loop 1 and loop 16 and 17 respectively. Loop 0 is not connected (old mermail)
(qty 3) QPC720 cards - located on a power shelf

My question is it better to install the new T1's (NT5D12) in the old QPC 414 slots and change the DCH, clock and PRI (telco)cabling connections as appropriate (hopefully do-able during next maintence period)or is it better to build a new PRI route, DCH's etc and put the new T1's in a different loop and cut things over during the next maintence period. I believe the first scenario would be the easiest if it is do-able. Have not had to deal with PRI installs before so I am looking for any suggestions to help me determine the easiest/safest method especially if things go south.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.....

Better to replace install the new T1's (NT5D12) in the old QPC 414 slots and change the DCH, clock and PRI (telco)cabling connections as appropriate.
Much more work with new route where the above is all hardware/cablesnno programming required.

Hi Reusser !

Thats what I'll do

Response much appreciated !

The NT5D12's need to be a version "AH", ie; NT5D12AH, when going to Rls 6.0 or above, at least that is what I was told by our vendor.

According to my notes the acceptable vintages for 81C/CS1000M-MG are: AC, AD, AG, or later (FNF requirement)

Of course we always bought AH vintage if we were replacing but if they were already installed this is what we used.

Came from our Nortel Sales Engineer when we went to 6.0.

Does Nortel/Avaya really support QPC720s any longer?

Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses.

I specifically asked for a written response from our vendor regarding the issue with the QPC720's. Avaya came back and said they could not guarantee the cards would work with Rlse 7.5. They also said that they should not have worked with Rlse 5.5. No support would be given if there is an issue with the T1's. It might be as simple as these cards were not part of the testing process for Rlse 5.5 and subsequent releases, thus no support, I have no idea. Just not willing to take the chance. For what it is worth though, we have probably been on Rlse 5.5 now for 2 years maybe going on 3 and have experienced no issue. I will put the cards to rest however, when the new ones come in.

Thanks again !
