I have Exchange 2000 running along side Active Directory 2000. I plan to install Exchange 2003 along side Ex 2000 and then decomission the old 2000 Exchange once everything is moved across. Should I upgrade Active Directory at the same time? If so what advatnages would this provide. Bearing in mind how costs can mount, what would the best path to follow be?

You have to run forestprep and domainprep from the XC2003 setup CD when you are installing it. You have no choice in the matter.

danb7 - have just finished what you plan without any major hitches.

As Neill says, you have to run forestprep and domainprep prior to installation of ex2k3 - 1st time must be run from your ops master (usually your primary DC). This prepares the 2000 AD for 2003 schema. Once you have done that you must run it again from the ex2k3 CD. If you plan to move mailboxes across then you MUST also apply a hotfix to your existing ex2k.

I followed this article - very good

Good luck!
