I recently upgraded a 98 machine to Windows 2000 pro, everything went 100%. There were some hardware issues, I resolved all with the exception of one. I can't get the sound card working again!! I never noted the specification of it before the upgrade, so I don't know manufacturer or version to get driver information. Are there any programs avaialable that will analyse hardware and report back the possible manufacturer or is there a way of finding the installation report on the harddrive

check and see who the maker of your sound card is and what model and go to their website and download the latest driver for windows 2000.
If its real old the comapny might not be in business anymore and it might be time to purchase a new sound card, If you just want basic sound, you can get them fairly cheap.

I would pull it out and start googling the # you see on it.. it may point you in the right direction
