Sorry to disagree DoubleUT but 4.0.4.X and 4.0.4.X are not revision upgrades. He is already SP4 and there is no such thing as SP5. so the only answer is a PR load (Patch Release)

Typically went within a load I always do an upgrade. i.e if going from MCD 6 to some newer version of 6. If I am going to a higher load then I install i.e MCD 4 to MCD 4.1. If I have a system that is acting a little strange I might do an install just to do the reformat of the drive and start from scratch process.

I appreciate all you guys help on this. I am getting ready to convert my database so I can go from 4.0 to 6.0. Do I need to go through the conversion from classic to sds or whatever if all I have is a standalone 3300? I can't find a clear answer in the docs. Everything talks about clusters, etc.

please help guys, when i try to run the perform migration to rdn model it just runs for a few hrs. I finally close it. Do i even need to do this if i just have a stand alone 3300 mxe? I need to upgrade to 6.0 next week. Everything I read makes it sound like all instances need db upgraded before going to 6.0

When you installed the MCD 4 it asked you to pick an option that basically said will this be managed by OpsMan or not? Depending what was picked you may or may not have to do the conversion to GDM ( i.e RDN via SDS ). I think there is a way in the system to tell what mode you are in but for the life of my can't remember exactly what it is. Something like looking for shared or something like that in the cluster programming. How you are configured will determine if you need to change or not. It doesn't really have anything to do if you have a single system or not. MCD 4.1 and up all use GDM. The database from a non-GDM MCD 4 system is not compatible with a GDM system so if you want to do an upgrade to the higher loads and keep a database you would need to do the GDM conversion first. Otherwise jump to MCD 6 and program from scratch.
If you need to go to GDM you do need to run the migration recheck because it gives you a list of what you need to fix first. This is typically extension numbers that are either not in the local only form or don't have a name in the telephone directory.

Thanks for your reply loopy loo. I just did the upgrade from 9.0 to 4.0 awhile back. I didn't see where it asked me about the ops man. I have ran the migration precheck and fixed all the names etc. Now that I know it has to be done. I will work on it next week. I just don't know why it doesn't do anything when I click the migrate button.

The system won't start the migration until you complete the pre-migration items in "Checklist for Migration to RDN Synchronization".
One other thing to check, if you look at "Shared Forms Configuration", the top of the form will tell you if you're using OpsManager or RDN Synch mode. If you're not running in a clustered environment, none of this may even matter. Easiest way to tell that is if "Cluster Element Assignment" contains no data, then that node is not in a cluster.
