We are getting ready to upgrade our Domain to AD. The only server in this domain is a NT PDC running Exchange 5.5 . The thing that I want to accomplish is upgrade the domain to Windows 2000 Server AD with Exchange 2000. I would like a clean install of Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000 on the PDC as there has been many programs installed and the registry is yucky. I would also like to preserve the domain and home directies of users. I can bring in 1 server if that helps the process of being able to clean install the PDC. I just need to be able to keep the Exchange org in tact. Any sugguestions would be great.

betterthanya, did you end up doing a domain (in-place) upgrade or did you do a fresh install? Was your upgrade a success? I have the same setup - I would like to do a fresh install of W2kS, but I am running exchange server and I do not have the resources (another computer that is capable of running Nt4 server w/echange 5.5) to migrate the mailboxes over. Any advice if you were to do it over again?

i don't know, but i was told Exchange 2000 doesn't work too well in the same box as your pdc, cuz of the dns issue

i am in the same shoes but i have separated box for dommain controller
