I had query with Microsoft 18 months ago with this query and was strongly recommended to go for clean install (which I did) as they suggested I would encounter unexpected results and reliability would not be good.
I would take an image of the OS first, and then perform a repair using English CD - then if it goes badly wrong you can go back to a working copy instead.
