Upgrade Norstar MICS from 6.0 to 7.0 or 7.1 1

Is the upgrade kit needed to upgrade a Norstar MICS from 6.0 to 7.0 or 7.1 and keep the current configuration?
Also I saw on web that the upgrade kit NT7B80AP was obsolete... Is there a newer release scheduled to come out soon?

Yes, you need the upgrade kit. Another option is to upgrade to R6.1 first, then you can go straight to R7 or R7.1 without the upgrade kit.

I should have also mentioned that I'd recommend doing a backup of the system before upgrading, and at each step as you upgrade.

OK... If I have a backup. Can I just install the 7.0 or 7.1 card and do a restore? (And not use the upgrade kit.)

No. You can only restore a backup to a system configured exactly the same, software and hardware. Doing backups is a safety procedure in case the system defaults for some reason during the upgrade.
