How long should it take to upgrade from Mermail to Call pilot, our tech has average skills.

Any concerns he should be aware of before doing this?

What release of callpilot are you going to? The average time I have seen is about 2-3 hours. It all depends on how big your system is.

Callpilot 2.0 But I know it takes longer than 2-3 hours just to get the call pilot installed and running.

The entire process from start to finish is what I am looking for, can he do it over a weekend, or one night after hours?

This can vary widely depending on system size, current configuration, and migration strategy.
Are you migrating data from Meridian Mail to Call Pilot? If so, how many mailboxes etc.?
Are you migrating the menus? Be advised that the menu structure does not migrate - just the recordings - and in an ugly form (each recording becomes an Appliation, so you have have 1 menu become numerous appliations). It's easier to rerecord.
You can plan to run both systems in parallel and do a phased migration, moving messages over at the last minute. That would let you do most of the work (especially a large system) during business hours and minimize afterhours and downtime.
There is a Meridian Mail to Call Pilot Migration Utility Guide that will give you quite a bit of detail to help you estimate what this particular site will require. It is 555-7101-801. I have found that you can get into unexpected extra time due to migration issues - nonconforming mailbox names, personal COS, remote notification, migrating menus (this in particular), etc.

I would not let an average tech attempt this. It is very complex. I have done one and we did it over a period of a week doing certain parts at different times. Your tech better be very familiar with callpilot and MM. There are many gotcha's

Watch out. We just upgraded and lost ability to overflow ACD groups to voice mail. Nortel says they "have no solution". We are not going to buy Symposium to fix a Nortel bug.

have you tried to ovdn the acd to a second acd group with zero agents and ncfw the pilot's acdn..might work. as far ae the upgrade goes, 2 tp 3 hours for the lyr 7 is about right, as fas as mounting the server etc, i would assume i could do it in a weekend haveing never seen the site. that would mean everything i needed, manuals, hardware and a second set of hands were on site, and if the helper was blond and made coffee it might help

Did you ever solve this problem?
If not, I have. If you need the details, let me know.

How did you resolve? I would like to know.

Set your acd to ovdn to the MCDN. Add the MCDN in Callpilot as a SDN. Build a mailbox for the acd as usual.

I'm using this setup with toft to pull people out of que after a set time and send them to VM/CP.

It only works if everything,CP and ACD, is on the same PBX.

another concern, since i didn't read the post is the migration tape works great, but it does not move the voice services, the menu services, the ann services etc have to be rebuilt from the app builder. i am installing the one for the hospital now and teh apps are taking a week, but that is almost 100 menues ...

The Migration tape from Mer Mail to CallPilot will migrate the voices menu and announcement RECORDINGS. It will NOT migrate the menus as you stated. You do have to build the menu services with APP Builder. After that just assign the migrate recording to the menus you built. Not in the book but there is a certain way to do it. You have to copy the recording and paste it into the new menu.

I have migrated 3 in the last week and will do two more tonight and Saturday. The three had about 70 menus in the three MerMails. Took about 4 days of solid programing to complete them, but did not have to rerecord them. System Data, Networking Data, Users, User messages(including personal verification) Voice Services recordings (only), and PDL/SDL lists will migrate without any problems. I did run into a problem with remote notification causing a problem. Under Voice Admin Outcalling notification there is a prompt that deals with pager data termination. Normaly it contains a # sign. Three that I have tried had an "E" instead of #. The "E" means go to the tools menu and follow any modifications made for pager/voice terminator strings. If you leave the E there, it will CAUSE the migration to fail. Just change the E to a # sign and all works OK. Took NORTEL 2 weeks to figure that out and let me know.
