Hi all, the customer has an IPO R9.0.5 with PCS 16. I'm thinking to upgrade it to 9.1. Do I need an upgrade license for it? I'm kinda confused based on the KB: "PCS 14 or lower units must first install Release 8.1(65) (or higher 8.1) or any Release 9.0 and then upgrade to Release 9.1. Care should be taken to ensure that no calls are made before the upgrade to Release 9.1, otherwise the system will require an 9.1 upgrade license despite being "new"." Avaya said I need one. Hope someone will end my confusion.

Yes you need an upgrade license. The customer has the system already and has already made calls.
Also buy a real essential edition license at the same time if you are running on a virtual license.

That was left handed.

Yes, you need an upgrade license anytime you go from one major release to a higher one. (8.1 to 9.0, 9.0 to 9.1). No license needed to stay within the same release (9.0.4 to 9.0.5)

The KB article has to do with a control unit of PCS 14 or lower, that is currently on a lower release than 8.1(65) and wants to go to 9.1. That system must go to 8.1(65) or higher, or 9.0, before going to 9.1

Thanks holdmusic34 & TouchToneTommy for clarification. Confusion ended. [tongue]
holdmusic34, how would I know If I'm using virtual license? Could you give samples/scenarios?

Open the config from file.
You might see 'Essential Edition License not Present' under errors

That was left handed.

You need a software upgrade license to go up to 9.1
You've got an essential. At least if the essential drops off because it is virtual you can paste it back in.

May the force be with you.

Thanks alot for your help holdmusic34 and TouchToneTommy . Really appreciate it, Star for you both experts![shadeshappy]
