I'd like to purchase whatever i need to upgrade easly from the evaluation version. I was woundering if I purchase the upgrade will work. I've done an upgrade from evaluation to with an ultimate CD. However, at $298 is a bit pricy of I can use an upgrade instead.

Greatly appreciate any info.

thx

Thanks for your reply but this doesn't help me. I have already evaluation verstion build 7100. I do not intend to do a clean install. All i want to do is if it is possible to get rid of the "evaluation build 7100" and the fact that the version will expire in March, can this be installed with an upgrade 7 media.

Greatly appreciated.

thx

Yes and No.

While you can install the new version without formatting the drive, you will not be able to preserve your installed applications.

You will however be able to keep your files and folders.

When the Installation is performed, it will create a folder named Windows.old or Windows.old.xxx (where xxx is a number from 000 to 999) if one already exists.

The installation will then move all OS files and folders including the users and Program Files folders and all their contents to this new folder.

The Program Files folder will be emptied of any and all applications you had installed.

Any folders in the root of the system drive will remain untouched.

From Program Files folder inside Windows.old you may be able to run some of them, but most apps not only install files there, they may install files to the Windows folder (which would have been removed as well) and install entries in the Registry (which would have been cleared).

So you'll still have to re-install most apps.

Reinstall = NO

preserve your installed applications = Yes...

Problems with install later = Possible, some of the RC code may be carried over into the final...

Has it been done = Yes, I have done that and have not had any problems yet!
