Hello,

If I upgrade from an athlon to a new athlonXP do I need to reinstall windows? I am keeping everything else the same (mobo, sound card, etc...)

Thanks,
Brad

If your current motherboard will take the new XP chip then you will be ok but without knowing the exact motherboard I have no idea if it will except the new chip or not. If you can tell me what motherboard you have I can tell you for sure.

My mobo is an epox 8k7a.. according to thier website it will accept the new athies but I just wanted to know about windows..

Thanks for the response,
Brad

No reinstalling required!
Just resetting of the bios (if it doesn't auto detect)
And memory settings if the old Athlon was a 200fsb variety.
Chances are it will auto detect at the correct speed and your old Athlon was a 266fsb so no memory adjustments will be needed.
There is a possibility however that the motherboard bios may need flashing, so it posts as an XP and not just at the processor speed. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.
