I have a Dell Dimension V 350, Pentium II, 350 MHz, 384 Mb RAM, original & current opperating system Windows 98. I can flash the BIOS with the appropriate update from the Dell web site to accept Windows 2000 Professional. However I have the following situation:

The machine has on-board video (ATI 3D Rage Pro) and sound (Yamaha) but Dell does not offer driver software to support these features for W2K. They do have the drivers for Win98.

Does W2K have "built-in" drivers for video & sound, like it does for printers?

Thanks for your help.

I think win2k will have these drivers built in. Im sure I seen win2k find ati 3d rage no probs.

If you want updated drivers have a look at the manufactures webpage (ati, yamaha) and you might find newer drivers there.

you may consider Running "WINNT32.EXE /checkupgradeonly" from the Win2k installation CD. This will check for software and hardware compatabilities with Windows 2000 and produce a printable report of items you need to be concerned with. (and some recommendations for actions before or after the upgrade.)

Jump1ng - Your suggestion to check the ATI & Yamaha websites paid off:
The video driver is on the W2K disk.
The sound system driver is available at the Yamaha website.

Crazyfitz - Running the program that you suggested confirms my guess that I had better do a clean W2K install. There will be a lot of changes needed.

Many Thanks to You Both. [cheers]
