Hi,

I need to upgrade CM from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4, I dont know the procedure how to upgrade.

Pls let me know all the steps involved to upgrade...i will
appreciate.

The media server is s8710/s8720.

thnks.

you should probably read the documentation on the AVAYA website, but the basic proceedure is to backup the servers first, lock the translations for upgrade, upgrade the standby server first (and patch it with the current patch), then you would "interchange" the standby and active servers (causing a system reboot, all phones re-register, all calls drop etc). Now the Standby server is your active server and you are running CM 4.0.4

At this point you now upgrade the old active server (now standby), and install the CM patch on it. After 5-10 minutes, in the "main web" page, under "system stats", the active and standby servers should be synced up, and the shadowing should be back on

SP1 for CM 4.0.4

P.S. Also keep in mind that the "/tftpboot" directory is overwritten during an upgrade, if you are using that for anything, you should probably back it up.

Thanks Mitch,

I am a bit confused,

The main reason to upgrade to 4.0.4 from 4.0.4 is to address "no ring answer" bug. Avaya sent me a patch 00.4.739.0-16738.tar.gz and asked me to apply the patch to CM.But to apply the patch we need to first upgrade to CM 4.0.4 then apply the patch.

My quetsion is ,
1.after applying the patch 16738 will CM be upgraded to 4.0.4 from 4.0.4?
2. is CM upgrade separate procedure from applying the patch? if it is how they differ?
3. can we upgrade CM and then apply the patch REMOTELY if both are separate procedures?

avayabrain,

Do you have an AVAYA Business Partner? You should probably have them help your with this. Yes, upgrading to CM 4.0.4 has to be done first, each server needs to be upgraded. Once that done, and the upgrade is "made permanent", you would then apply the CM 4.0.4 patch(s).

Upgrading changes the version of Communication Manager you are running, patching just solves a known issue in that particular version of CM, they are 2 different things.

It is difficult to do this remotley, but it is possible, you would need to download the CM 4.0.4 ISO image, unpack it/burn it to a CD, then copy the files onto a PC that has access (onsite) to the S87XX equipment. You would then install a TFTP server (one comes on the CM CD), you then copy the installable image to each S87XX server, and then follow the upgrade proceddure.

I have done them remotley, but I have done many this way and have experience at it, and I also in general have someone availble who can go onsite, in case we need to reboot something. I would not suggest you do the first one remotley, you or your Business Partner should probably do this one onsite.
