I need to bring our Windows 2000 Backoffice Server DC up to a Win2003 Server domain. Although it is Backoffice, SQL and Exchange are notinstalled on the server. In an in-place upgrade to Windows 2003 Server possible?

Yes, absolutley. You first need to run

ADPREP /FORESTPREP
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP

From the Schema Master and PDC Emulator FSMO Role holders. Then you can upgrade the server.

I hope you find this post helpful.

The prep actions have already been done, actually, because we recently migrated to an Exchange 2003 server. That's actually the reason for needing to go to 2003, since we want to setup ISAn server and run RPC over HTTP and that requires the the Global catalog Server be a Windowws 2003 DC.

So, there are no special considerations because it's BackOffice?

TIA

Been a while since I played with B.O., but in later versions, called Small Business Server, you had to use a transition pack to remove the SBS limitations if you wanted to upgrade to a non-SBS solution.
