upgrade AIX 4.2 to 4.33: O518 on 43P panel

I'm trying to upgrade AIX 4.2 to 4.33 booting from CD1 of AIX 433. But on bootprocess, the system (43P Model 150) hangs with 0518 on panel. But i still can boot on the aix 4.2 system.

does it not boot the cd at all? or does it just not boot the machine after you do the upgrade?

It does not boot with CD to process upgrade at all. It hangs with O518. But it still can boot back with Aix 4.2

sounds like bad media. 518 can be a corrupted filesystem, bad bootlist, bad jsf log and several other things. Were this your internal disk I'd tell you to boot to maint shell, run fsck on the rootvg filesystems before mounting then, then run a log form on the rootvg log, reset the bootlist and do other stuff.

But it's your CD and none of that will work on a cd.

Suggest you get a different install CD and try that.
