Updating TASK notification in OUTLOOK XP

When I assign a task to someone and they update the status I automatically revieve an e-mail that updates me as to the status of the task. Unless I actually open the e-mail the task in my task list doesn't get updated.

I tried writing a rule that marks all task related e-mails as read to see if that would update my list but that didn't work. The preivew pane didn't even work . The only way the task in my list will update is if I actually open the mail. Does anyone know of a way around this?
