I need to set up a Parameter Field(PF) that offers a selection from a table. i.e, I have a [NAMES] table and when the report is opened the PF offers me a list of the names in that table - if I added a name, this would be reflected in the list the PF would offer.

At present, I have set up the PF and via the 'set default values' button, I have selected the list of names available. The problem comes when I add a name to the table and I have to edit the PF and 'add' the new entry manually. Is there something I can do where the PF 'refreshes' itself?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

If you are just using Crystal then the simple answer is no!

The parameter defaults for your dropdown list are generated when the report is created. To refresh them you need to edit the parameter definition from crystal and reselect the required defaults (eg. all values from the table field).

If you are interfacing via VB then there are ways to do this, but I can not help you on that one.

Yep, one of the dumbest "features" of Crystal. Without a front-end like VB, you're out of luck. You've got to edit the parameter and re-save the report.

On the Crystal web site there's an example of refreshing the parameter list via VB and the RDC technology. It seems ridiculously complicated for such a simple function.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems such an oversight!

Thanks again
