Updating Office XP

hi all,

Recently bought a copy of Office XP for a XP Home Edition computer. It installed and runs no problem from the CD.

Problem comes with updating. The microsoft site encourages me to install Service Pack 1. The update pack downloads but while installing consistently halts at a certain point and says:

Error patching update to "C\config.msi\PTxx.tmp

I've been into Explorer with the View System Files checked and this folder seems to function fine when trying to write/import/export test files from it.

So why can't the Office updater use this folder?

Any help would be gratefully received.

I have the same problem, I think it is error 1324 that is related to this problem. It says something about it not being installed from the ORIGINAL hologram disk. Which in my case it wasn't. So I am SOL, unless I get an original copy of Office XP.
