I'm looking to be able to automatically update the HOSTS file.

Due the configuration of a group within the network, in which the primarily connect to another domain and simply use resources on our network, I need to be able to assign hosts files for them.

Since we are their secondary system, they do no access are WINS or internal DNS and this cannot be changed. Secondarily, we believe that there may be similarily named servers on their system as are on ours (They really don't like sharing information, and we really have no choice in the matter...government and all). Thereby, we have to also give our servers pseudonames in the HOSTS file.

So, in an effort to avoid going to every machine to update their HOSTS file, I would like to be able to do this automatically. Does anyone know how I might accomplish this? Workarounds, 3rd party software, etc.

Thanks.

I have never run into that problem before but I've looked online and I cannot see a way around going to each machine. Unfortunatly since LMhost files are static everything will have to be manually done. I will keep looking but it looks like a long day ahead for you. Sorry. [morning]

Unless you can write a VB application (or something else) to automatically do the tasks you require? -----------------------------------------------------
