Updating ODBC links doesn't update SQL Server permissions?? 1

When I change permissions for an NT Group in SQL Server, it doesn't seem to be enough to re-link the tables. I have to delete the old links and make new ones. The old DSN's are ok.

If I don't, the permissions seem to update erratically. Has anyone else run into this? Is it a bug or a feature? Or what?

Access is like that by design. The same thing happens if you add a column to your table in SQL - To see the new column you must remove then readd the linked table. Try using a pass-through query instead of a linked table - you can make these DSNless.

Thanks -- any idea why it's designed like that? What the advantages are?

Only problem is, I find that Pass-through queries are not updateable. Looks like I'll just remember to drop and re-attach linked tables to the frontend anytime I change the backend structure.
