Updated switch code

I am studying for my CCNA and I have a couple of old 2924XL switches that I am using along with two 2600 routers. I have a CCO account through work, but am having problems finding updated code for the switches (havn't tried the routers yet). Will I be able to access code for these even though they are not on our support contract as they are old switches that have been sitting around collecting dust? If not is there any other way to get my hands on some recent code for these things?

Having a CCO profile doesn't necessarily mean you get access to the downloads area. But if you do have full access to the downloads area, you will be able to get any image you want. However Cisco IOS, like most software, is licensed and you should only download software you have paid for or for device(s) covered by your service contract.

Whenever you try to download an image, you always get asked to accept the terms and conditions which are similar to what I've just described.

2924 ios code is still out there if you have access , we still have a ton of these on the network. there are 2 flavors of 2924's , the old 4 meg version and the newer 8 meg version which runns different code than the 4 meg version so check your 2924's to see what you have. 2600 routers are still widely used and available if you have access.

If you try to upgrade the 2600's to the 12.3 code and the file says it requires 16mb of flash there is a slight trick to get it to load.

You need to erase the current flash with the following command:

erase /no-squeeze-reserve-space flash:
Then when you tftp and it asks to again confirm deletion make sure you answer N and the IOS should load. Otherwise you will get an out of memory error. Been there and done this.
