I have to update values on the server from records on an excel spreadsheet.

I know how to do the update statement, however I do not know how to read the excel records. I could even save this as another file type (.txt, etc.) if need be.

Anyone know how to use an external flat file as a table??

Wouldn't it be easier to read in the Excel Spreadsheet into a table and then update from that? Or is this not an option.

I was just wondering if there was an easier option. We're under deadline and I'm not sure if I have access to the server to create a table. Guess I'll try though now I have the data. Thanks!

Look up the DTS Import/Export Wizard in Books Online. This is a quick and easy way to get the table values into SQL if you have access to Enterprise Manager.

You can use Enterprise Manager from your PC (Client Tools) to access SQL without physical access to the actual machine that SQL is on.
