Update Display Name In AD 1

I have a user that has an incorrect first name in Active Directory,
I went into the user account via Active Directory and changed the
user's Display Name and First name. This update does not display in Active Directory.

Why is this happening and how can I correct it?

Example:

Users name is display as Mike Jordan

I want to change his display name to Michael Jordan

Right click on the object in AD and choose "Rename".
