Hi everyone,

I need to update the configuration files on a Cisco 1603 router via a serial connection. I would like to download the configuration and edit it on a PC before uploading the new config file. How can I do this without using tftp.

In the future I would like to use tftp, but at the moment I think that network access has been blocked. How can I change it so that I can telnet and tftp to the router?

There are 2 routers and a firewall.

xr - external router (Cisco 1603-R):
internal address 203.103.163.82
Extended ACL restricts inbound access to
SMTP
SSH and Telnet access from certain sites only (not ours).

firewall - WatchGuard SOHO:
internal address 203.103.163.81
external address 192.168.2.2
Forwards SNMP to 192.168.2.3
Forwards Telnet to 192.168.2.1
Forwards SSH to 192.168.2.4

ir - internal router (Cisco 1605-R):
internal address 192.168.1.1
external address 192.168.2.1

My PC:
IP address 192.168.1.141

Thanks

Also, how does access-enable work?

When I try to use it to temporarily allow access, it states that it is only available from VTY.

Can it be used to temporarily give access to telnet and tftp with the router?

Your site has been denied Telnet access. You have to get into the router to use TFTP with it. You might try telnetting to another site and from there telnetting again. I wouldn't TFTP config info. Instead copy it to notepad (using hyperterminal)and then copy and paste back and forth as you need.
VTY is the telnet line, there should be 5 lines numbered 0 - 5.
